Chaos: How To Control The Uncontrolable

Chaos: How To Control The Uncontrollable:

The past few weeks have been filled with chaos.

It’s the summer which means the business is crazy busy.

I work for our family business and it comes with a lot of responsibilities.

Being that I am in charge of lots of different things, my days are always filled to the brim.

And that’s only if everything goes smoothly.

If you follow me on Mixer, then you know I had to take a few streams off due to going back into work.

I would be lying to you if I said it didn’t suck. It does … but that’s also the nature of our business.

I am a professional firefighter. Not in the actual sense but in that I know when I wake up and my feet hit the floor I will be dealing with 100 issues that day.

One part of me gets overwhelmed by it and the other part wants to be the one everyone runs to.

I take pride in being face first with chaos and coming out the other side.

Now, that doesn’t mean I am happy the entire time. My head goes to dark places. But it assures me that I can take anything that life throws at me. It means I can become one with the chaos.

Once again, this is the nature of the business we are in. We have times were things go smooth and then we have times of utter pandemonium.

These times consume me either way. Whatever mode the business is in, that’s what I am going to be in for the time being.

I want to make sure that when chaos is surrounding me that I am still in control of the one thing I can be: Myself.

When we lose control of outside sources, we can still be in control of our own mindset.

I can influence the situation or steer it in the right direction. But running a business will always produce chaotic situations.

Not only that but after you get home where it should be peaceful the chaos can follow like a Spectre.

Things I do to combat the chaos is:

  • Eating as healthy as I can

  • Hitting the gym and/or some form of exercise

  • Making sure I am getting adequate sleep

  • Meditate using the Headspace app

These are basic everyday things that I need to do before doing anything. If I follow the bullet points above, I set myself up to conquer the day.

I need to be as in control of myself as I can to put out the fires around me every day.

Losing control of myself has been a battle for me for a long time.

Finally, I am starting to go with the flow of whatever the world throws at me.

Besides doing what I described above, I am finding the comfort in not always being able to hit all my routines.

My daily routines are a necessity to me, but I need to understand that the stars are not always going to align. A wrench will be thrown into my systems on the daily. This includes maintaining a level head amidst the chaos surrounding me.

The way I am currently dealing with this is to not leverage my happiness with perfection.

The only way to succeed in this happiness journey is to set these routines in place but to not be tied to them.

A measure of my own mental strength is how I react when the pieces come tumbling around me.

I am learning how to maintain the internal without allowing the external to derail me.

Learning how to not have external conflict destroy me has been eye-opening.

No matter the number of self-help books I read, without having the ability to be calm in chaos, I am fucked.

This is where Meditation has helped me so much. It allows me to observe my surroundings without investing in them.

To allow myself freedom from chaos, I can not let my ego get in the way. The present moment is as it is and my mental state will remain calm.

The brain will fuck you over if you acknowledge every shitty thought that jumps into it. My mind is always overanalyzing the situation. If it can not change it for the better, it goes out of control.

Be patient and maintain a positive mindset regardless of the external.

Nothing is going to go as planned all the time.

Finding Inner Peace:

The best way to combat all this is to maintain that inner peace.

I am talking about the inner peace that is indestructible. The one that comes from inside me. Not the ego-based one that is happy when reading motivational quotes. I’m talking about the one that is sustainable in the real world where the real chaos exists.

Meditation and Calmness are who I am. It is not a band-aid.

This will ensure that I can defeat any obstacle throughout my day and put fires out.

Being present and calm allows me to see the world clearly and allows me to direct situations for the better.

My Default State Is Happiness:

My default state is to be happy. I am making moves every day to keep it that way.

Humans are wired to remain calm 99% of the time.

When we lose our minds over the petty, we are not taken seriously. Whether that be in our personal or business lives.

At the end of the day, we are always alone with our own minds.

Why not have our mental state in the best form it can be?
