Terrifier Movie Review:

Terrifier is a movie I waited for anxiously for a while now.

A few years ago, I watched a great anthology horror film called All Hallows Eve. It featured a terrifying clown named Art. All Hallows Eve was an entertaining anthology film. The highlights were definitely the sequences that had Art The Clown in them.

When I heard that Dread Central was releasing a whole movie dedicated to Art named Terrifier, I knew I had to see it.

A maniacal clown named Art terrorizes three young women on Halloween night and everyone else who stands in his way.

Terrifier is written and directed by Damien Leone. The movie stars Jenna Kanell, Catherine Corcoran, and Margaret Reed. David Howard Thornton was brought in to play Art The Clown in this version. Before, Mike Giannelli portrayed Art in the Terrifier shorts and in All Hallows Eve.

I have nothing negative to say about Thornton’s portrayal of Art The Clown. He does such an awesome job and is the highlight of Terrifier. From the creepiness to the onslaught – Thornton nails every single scene.

Terrifier hooked me right from the start of the movie. The opening scene (which has an Easter Egg thrown in) to the diner scene, I loved what I was seeing.

We get introduced to our characters on Halloween night after a night of partying. They are looking for a spot to sober up so they decide to hit up a local pizza spot. Within seconds, Art shows up and is messing with them.

While there are a ton of great scenes in Terrifier, the Diner scene is my favorite. The scene is a total creepfest and I love that in my horror movies.

The funny part is that the movie takes place on Halloween Night. One character is creeped out while the other thinks its some random weirdo. No one knows what Art The Clown is about.

If you thought this movie was going to be about its creepiness – you would be wrong. Terrifier puts its foot on the gas and doesn’t let up until the end. The movie turns to a full on grindhouse gorefest. Art has gone from a creepy (funny?) villain to a force of mass bloodshed!

Terrifier turned into full onslaught mode and I loved every minute of it.

I mentioned before the Grindhouse feeling to Terrifier. From the way, they filmed the movie to the soundtrack. The movie is straight out of an 80s slasher flick. Terrifier is an awesome throwback.

The tone of this film is something I hope newer movies take note of. I love 80s horror and this is that with a modern take.

When Art The Clown is taking care of his victims, there is no holding back.

The camera doesn’t pan away and everything is shown. Terrifier is all brutality.

I don’t have a fear of clowns but Art The Clown might change that. He made me feel dread throughout the movie in both his eeriness and his inhumanity.

Art The Clown is one of the best representations of a killer clown I have ever seen.

A Few Cons:

Now with all that good out of the way, let’s get to some cons of Terrifier.

There are some points of the movie you will be scratching your head. You will question why the characters are making the decisions they are making.

A few scenes of the movie have the characters able to win in the situation but they choose not to.

I know if this happened we would have a short movie. Some scenes are ridiculous in the choices the characters make.

It isn’t anything that will take you out of the movie.

Conclusion:

If you are into Grindhouse, clowns, and a whole lot of creepy, I recommend Terrifier.

It is a solid throwback to that 80s slasher movie with tons of gore. Not to mention, the great soundtrack and atmosphere throughout.

We are four months into 2018 and Terrifier is one of my favorite films of the year. I look forward to Dread Centrals new release #Screamers this year.
